Configuring and Exporting Logs for Managed Omni Gateway

Managed Omni Gateway generates runtime logs and access logs. By default, Managed Omni Gateway forwards these logs to Anypoint Platform, where you can view them in Runtime Manager and Anypoint Monitoring.

You can also export logs to third-party observability services, such as New Relic, Splunk, or any OpenTelemetry-compliant tool. Managed Omni Gateway sends logs directly to each external output that you configure by using the OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) over HTTP or gRPC. Exporting logs enables you to correlate Omni Gateway logs with data from other systems and keep logs in the tools your teams already use.

You can export logs to one or more external outputs. For each output, choose whether to send access logs, runtime logs, or both. Exporting logs to external outputs doesn’t affect forwarding logs to Anypoint Platform.

You can export logs and distributed traces to the same service. Logs and traces are configured separately, so to export both, configure log export on the Logging tab and trace export on the Tracing tab. See Configuring and Exporting Distributed Tracing for Managed Omni Gateway.

Runtime Logs and Access Logs

Runtime logs include:

  • The startup and shutdown of Omni Gateway and its components

  • Deployed APIs and policies

  • Possible misconfigurations of Omni Gateway or other errors

Access logs describe incoming requests and responses for specific APIs. To generate access logs, apply a Message Logging policy to the API instances whose request and response data you want to log. See Configuring Message Logging for Managed Omni Gateway.

Configure and Export Logs in Runtime Manager

  1. In Anypoint Platform, select Runtime Manager.

  2. Select Omni Gateways.

  3. Select your Omni Gateway.

  4. Open Runtime Configurations.

  5. Open Logging.

  6. Under Anypoint Logging, turn Forward logs to Anypoint on or off.

When this setting is off, logs aren’t available in Anypoint Monitoring.

  7. To export logs to a third-party service, under External Outputs, click Add, and then configure the output:

    1. For Type, select OpenTelemetry.

    2. Under Parameters, configure the connection to your OpenTelemetry endpoint. See OpenTelemetry Output Parameters.

    3. To add more outputs, click Add and repeat these steps.

  8. Under Access Logs, turn on each output that receives access logs.

  9. Under Runtime Logs, turn on each output that receives runtime logs.

  10. For Log Level, select the minimum severity level of runtime logs to include. See Runtime Log Levels.

  11. Click Apply changes.

To stop exporting logs to an output, click the delete icon for the output, and then click Apply changes.

OpenTelemetry Output Parameters

Parameter Required Default Value Description

Host

Yes

N/A

Hostname of the OpenTelemetry endpoint, for example, otlp.nr-data.net.

Port

Yes

N/A

Port of the OpenTelemetry endpoint, for example, 4317.

TLS

Yes

On

Enables or disables TLS for this output.

TLS Verify

Yes

On

Enables or disables TLS certificate validation. Applies only when TLS is On.

gRPC

No

Off

Uses OTLP/gRPC over HTTP/2 instead of OTLP/HTTP. Turning on this option also enables HTTP/2.

Compress

No

N/A

Payload compression mechanism for OTLP/HTTP. Supported values are Gzip and Zstd.

Batch Size

No

1000

Maximum number of log records to send at a time.

Headers

No

N/A

Custom headers to add to requests sent to the OpenTelemetry endpoint, such as an API key for authentication. Click Add to add a header name and value.

Add Label

No

N/A

Custom labels to add to exported logs. Click Add to add a label name and value.

Logs URI

No

N/A

Path of the logs endpoint. Overrides the default path.

Net Connect Timeout (seconds)

No

10

Maximum time to establish a connection, including the TLS handshake.

Net IO Timeout (seconds)

No

0

Maximum time that a connection can stay idle while assigned. A value of 0 means no timeout.

Output entry name

No

Output

Name for this output. The name identifies the output in the Access Logs and Runtime Logs sections, for example, Output - OpenTelemetry.

Runtime Log Levels

The Log Level setting includes runtime logs of the selected severity level and higher. For example, if you select Warning, Managed Omni Gateway exports warning, error, and fatal messages.

Log Level Description

Debug

Debugging messages.

Info

Informative messages.

Warning

Warning messages.

Error

Error messages, such as when an exception occurs.

Fatal

Fatal messages, such as when an application fails.
